Buy Sarah Palin more clothes…..

The way I see it is that the $150,000 spent on Sarah Palin was $150,000 that wasn’t spent on their campaign …..They can spend all the money they want on her, it won’t make any difference in the outcome….. Their girl will look good but it won’t sugar coat the fact that their basic plan will not change America for the better …. Their priorities are a little skewed, if you ask me and this is just another example of how our money will be spent if they get into office, again….

Look, the RNC spending $150,000 on a new wardrobe for Sarah Palin, so that she will impress us is like an average “Jane, the homemaker” going to Penney’s to buy a pair of $50 shoes so she has something nice to wear when her husband takes her out to the Golden Corral Buffet ….. Rich Republicans are probably wondering what all the fuss is about….. A further nod to the fact that they are out of touch with the general public….

I understand that she now plans on donating her clothes to charity….. (even she doesn’t believe that she will need these clothes when she goes back to Alaska, I guess) ….. I say, she should just take the clothes and run, it may be all that she will get out of her hard work on the campaign trail….. But if the RNC is smart, they would auction them off, take the money and start saving for their next run in 4 years…. What a better way but to start with the skirts of the woman they banked all of their hopes on……

Hey, I was lucky enough to go to the great Ann Richard’s estate sale… I spent $20 on a pair of her black shoes that she bought from Barney’s in New York….. How cool is that!!!!!

But Sarah, don’t you be looking at these shoes…. they are some you could never fill…….

Come November it will all be a mute point anyway…. She will just be a better outfitted govenor of Alaska, paid for by the RNC (basically Republican donors), not the Alaskan people….

Hopeful People for Obama

We just got home from spending a week in Wichita, Kansas doing the annual Wichita Postcard Club show… We had a fabulous time with friends we share our love of postcards with….. Now for some reason, most of our postcard friends are conservative Republicans… Usually we all skirt around political issues but we were delighted to find out that this year we had more in common besides postcards… Several of the couples we enjoy being with have decided to switch their support to Barack Obama…. What I loved was their enthusiasm…. One couple comes from PA. and another from Illinios……And another close Republican friend who is the glue holding the postcard club together has become an Obama supporter…. I came home with hope that people are really seeing who Barack Obama is and all of the positive possiblities that come with him…..

And as McCain continues to badger the crowds with fear and lies about his opponent, Obama stays the course in his calm and honest way, showing us how presidential he will be….. I want Barack Obama to be President because he doesn’t make me feel afraid…

In Kansas, there is a sign in a field off of the highway that has always bothered me when I pass it….. The sign reads……” Accept the Lord or you will regret it for the rest of your life”…. To me, that sign plays with fear and would be much more inviting if it read, “Accept the Lord and you will not regret it for the rest of your life.”….. It’s not that I am that religious but I am tired of control by fear in practically every aspect of life….. And that seems to be the Republican policy…..

Anyway, before I get back to writing about the suffrage movement, I want to speak about how people are attracted to the positivity that seems to fuel Barack Obama….. I love that Colin Powell has come out endorsing Obama and he did it so eloquently…..

And then I found several other videos I wanted to share … First, Women for Obama…… (this one is about 19 minutes but well worth watching……

Mexican Americans for Obama…….

Israelis for Obama…….

So, in order to make this happen, don’t forget to vote….. And be careful when you vote, make sure every thing looks right before you pull the lever or push the button…..

Vote….. it will make you feel like you are a part of the change and it will make you feel hopeful and good…..

Oh, I bought some great suffrage postcards and I will be sharing them in my next post…..

McCain’s attitudes towards Women and his “Friends”……

“Bathing Beauties”

solar etching by debbie little wilson

If McCain wins and I have to listen to him say “My Friends” a hundred times in every speech, I will slit my wrists…. It is bad enough that we have had to endure eight years of Bushisms but the prospect of four years of Palin’s folksy, gosh darn it nonsense and McCain’s breathy “Listen, my friends” will absolutely do me in….Okay, I had to get that off of my chest first before I could continue…

They say that “Actions speak louder than words” and what I have observed of McCain’s actions towards women is a big shout out…. His voting record alone makes me understand how he views women’s rights.. I could list these but they are too long …. If you are interested in viewing them in detail, check out.. WomenForBarackObama.com

or go to Votesmart.org to learn how he has voted on all of the issues….

In my efforts to tolerate Sarah Palin, I have just come to feel sorry for her….. She is really just a pawn for McCain to add a bust, oh I mean, boost to his dragging campaign….. There were other more qualified Republican women whom he could have chosen but they weren’t sexy enough and we all know that sex sells… Now, granted, Palin did accept the position “without blinking” but she should have known that she wasn’t ready for the job….. Maybe if she had really read all of those magazines or newspapers that she couldn’t name to Katie Couric, she would have been better equiped….. she should have said “Thanks, but no thanks” to McCain’s sexism….

I hesitate to bring up McCain’s first wife but since we are talking about how he views women, I might as well go ahead….. While he was a POW, his wife was in a horrible car wreck…. she became disfigured and gained weight…. He comes home and dumps her for a richer, younger, more fit model…. Not an uncommon tale but if you claim that are in the “moral” party, you might as well “walk the walk and talk the talk” or suffer the criticism …..

Recently during the debate, a young black woman got up to ask him a question…… His body language spoke volumes…. Instead of answering her question and looking into her eyes, he totally turned his back to her when he spoke…… I was in disbelief…. A sharp contrast to the hand shaking and drooling he did over the overweight comrade in arms at the beginning of the debate….I don’t know if this reaction was because she was a woman or because she was black or because he was just too old to be standing that long but what ever it was, it was pretty rude

Women are not the only people he doesn’t respect…. I would talk about the “that one” comment but it leaves me speechless…..There was that moment he told the young man that he probably never heard about Fannie and Freddie until this crisis…. how insulting….

McCain doesn’t even seem to have as much tolerance for women or African Americans as Palin has for the gay community…..and that isn’t saying much….It seems like he only has respect for the old guard Republicans and military men…. that leaves a huge portion of our population at risk….. which scares me…..

and leaves me wondering, who are these “friends” that he keeps talking about………

With a Wink and a Prayer… Let’s talk about Sarah Palin

Okay, I have a confession to make and it involves this prized possession of mine…. My good friend, Hal Ottaway found this vintage pin for me and I have worn it almost constantly since I got it…. I loved the connection that I felt with the woman who wore this button before me….. I wondered if she lived long enough to cast her first vote…..I wore this pin to spark conversations about voting…. most people thought I was making a statement about Hillary…. It was really just an excuse to preach to women about voting and the history of how we got the vote…..And when I voted in the Primary, I wore the button (discretely) into the voting booth and touched it as I voted for the first time in my life for a woman for President…. I was overwhelmed by the historic significance of the moment…..

Hillary didn’t win, of course but I was equally excited about Barack Obama….. I admired McCain’s service to our country but when he said he would stay in Iraq for a hundred years, if it took that long to win that war, I was appalled…. and started to worry about what our world would become under the rule of another Warrior (in so called “Maverick’s” clothing)…. Once he made his decision to have Palin for his running mate, my worry went into overdrive… I had no idea who she was but the more I learned the worse my worry became…

I was disheartened and insulted that this woman was McCain’s idea of the kind of woman who would best represent the women in this country…. It showed me that he has no understanding of who women are and what we need… Does he think we are so stupid that any person with a vagina would lure the Hillary supporters away from Barack Obama?…..

This woman does not speak for me….

SO, I took off my button because I didn’t want anyone to assume that I was for Palin because “Votes for Women” meant Vote for ANY Woman…… Quite frankly, I didn’t want to talk about her at all… But if you know me, you know that sooner or later I would have to speak my mind…..

So let’s talk about Sarah Palin…..

First of all, I have to say that I wanted to see her fall on her face during the debate…. I felt guilty because as a feminist, I shouldn’t want to watch any woman fall flat on her face, EVER…… Like most everyone else, I am ready for this race to be over and to me, if Palin failed miserably, McCain’s run for the White House would be seen for what it is (a huge mistake), Obama would be President by a landslide and all would be right with the world……

But Palin did better than I expected which wasn’t a huge feat because my expectations of her were so low … Putting aside the fact that she said nothing substantial, I found her over the top “folksy” attitude and speech frightening…. Doesn’t the public remember that Bush got elected and reelected because of his good old boy folksy ways? So why would we want more of the same ? This country can’t afford more of the same….. It certainly isn’t a maverick who would play that card to the hilt……… Wake up all you hockey moms and Joe SixPacks….. ( I can’t believe she said that)…. I am neither of those but I certainly want someone more intelligent and informed than myself to be President or VP…….

And all that winking….. good God… was that supposed to be charming? Maybe she was winking because she was trying to get that clump hair out of her eye….My Mother may be a Republican but I would imagine she was thinking Palin needs to have a good hair cut….. You Betcha..

I have been called a Pollyanna many times but even I can see that our world has been made far more dangerous than it ever has been, physically and financially, thanks to Bush’s cowboy, maverick style.. McCain and Palin can’t distance themselves from Bush because like other’s have said, Palin is just George Bush in a dress….

I have more to say about Palin but it exhausts me to be this negative at too long of a stretch.. But I will catch my breath and say more tomorrow…..

And so I will close with this prayer……

“Please God, don’t let Americans be hood-‘winked’ again….”
