I will not be supporting this President.

pin1

Since 11/9,  I have looked for something to give me comfort and not to feel like my world has just spun into another stratosphere…What kind of place do I live in now.? The idea that enough people were like-minded to Trump and his racist statements has made me ill to my stomach. I have friends and family members who voted him in. I know that most of them voted for him not BECAUSE of his racist, misogynistic and bigoted words but in spite of them… Okay, I get it but here is the  fact that made me feel a little more comfortable about our world…..74.2 % of our country DID NOT elect Trump. The numbers show that 25.6 % of people voted for Clinton, 1.7 % for Johnson and 46.9% of eligible voters did not  vote at all.  Almost 101 MILLION people didn’t even care enough to partake in this election. That is not the part that makes me feel good, in fact that horrifies me but that is a whole other topic ..  The bottom line is that only 25.5 % of Americans elected Trump. So only 1/4 of our country support him. That is not a majority and that is certainly not a mandate.

Now, having said that, it doesn’t mean that our country isn’t as dangerous as we feel. Incidents of Trump supporters acting out aggressively are happening all over the country. In Texas, a group calling themselves the Texas Vigilantes have posted signs warning that they will “form tar and feathering vigilante groups to round up and punish people supporting ‘Diversity Garbage'”..And it has already started. Before Trump tackles dismantling every thing President Obama has done, Trump needs to show us how he plans to lead and let these followers know that this hateful behavior is not acceptable to him or any one else.  He needs to call off his dogs NOW.

Because of these types of fears, there is a whole movement of people wearing safety pins to identify themselves as safe harbor to any who needs it. . I have heard a few cynical comments about this but I feel that since we don’t know what will be happening, it can’t hurt.   However,  I have chosen another way. I will be wearing my vintage Votes for Women button. My plan is to go after the 46.9% of non voters. Maybe it will be a conversation starter that will give me a chance to preach about the voting process and our history. It will give me 4 years to convince those people how different this election could have turned out if they had shown up and how important it is that they vote next time.

The other thing that has bothered me has been the constant urging to buck up and accept and support Trump for the good of our country. Since I don’t believe that Trump is good for our country, I will give Trump the same support that the Trump supporters have shown President Obama. I think that number is Zero. They blocked him on everything that he has tried to do . I felt much better when I made the decision to do what I can to stop whatever Trump tries to do. He does not represent me and he does not own me. And that makes me feel pretty damn good.

Hopeful People for Obama

We just got home from spending a week in Wichita, Kansas doing the annual Wichita Postcard Club show… We had a fabulous time with friends we share our love of postcards with….. Now for some reason, most of our postcard friends are conservative Republicans… Usually we all skirt around political issues but we were delighted to find out that this year we had more in common besides postcards… Several of the couples we enjoy being with have decided to switch their support to Barack Obama…. What I loved was their enthusiasm…. One couple comes from PA. and another from Illinios……And another close Republican friend who is the glue holding the postcard club together has become an Obama supporter…. I came home with hope that people are really seeing who Barack Obama is and all of the positive possiblities that come with him…..

And as McCain continues to badger the crowds with fear and lies about his opponent, Obama stays the course in his calm and honest way, showing us how presidential he will be….. I want Barack Obama to be President because he doesn’t make me feel afraid…

In Kansas, there is a sign in a field off of the highway that has always bothered me when I pass it….. The sign reads……” Accept the Lord or you will regret it for the rest of your life”…. To me, that sign plays with fear and would be much more inviting if it read, “Accept the Lord and you will not regret it for the rest of your life.”….. It’s not that I am that religious but I am tired of control by fear in practically every aspect of life….. And that seems to be the Republican policy…..

Anyway, before I get back to writing about the suffrage movement, I want to speak about how people are attracted to the positivity that seems to fuel Barack Obama….. I love that Colin Powell has come out endorsing Obama and he did it so eloquently…..

And then I found several other videos I wanted to share … First, Women for Obama…… (this one is about 19 minutes but well worth watching……

Mexican Americans for Obama…….

Israelis for Obama…….

So, in order to make this happen, don’t forget to vote….. And be careful when you vote, make sure every thing looks right before you pull the lever or push the button…..

Vote….. it will make you feel like you are a part of the change and it will make you feel hopeful and good…..

Oh, I bought some great suffrage postcards and I will be sharing them in my next post…..
